Brits concerned about book status

A problem we'll never encounter in the US, one out of every three Brits admits to having purchased a book just to look smart.

Those darned book snobs! The poll was commissioned by Expedia and the British Airport Authority, to help promote their new travel book prize ceremony. Read the Guardian write-up.

I have often wondered if people put as much thought into what they'll be seen reading as they do into the outfits they're seen wearing... And am backed up by this quote:

The latest literary pressure is keeping up with the rest of your fellow travellers and commuters. Bookshelf contents are fast becoming as studied and planned as outfits as a way to impress others.
